ITE Alumni Study Support Grant

The Study Support Grant (SSG) is available for ITE full-time students who need financial assistance.

Objective
1. The ITE Alumni Association organizes activities each year to raise funds to support its programmes, schemes and events. One of the objectives is to use a portion of the net proceeds to provide financial assistance to needy ITE students. Hence, the Study Support Grant (SSG) scheme has been implemented precisely for this purpose.
2. The SSG scheme is essentially a 'pocket-money' scheme. It is intended to provide financial assistance to help ITE students, whose families encounter sudden financial hardship, to continue their studies in ITE. The quantum of each SSG is $100 per semester.
Funding
3. The amount of fund to be allocated to the SSG scheme shall be decided by the ITE Alumni Management Committee. The allocation of fund may vary from year to year depending on the amount raised through its fund-raising activities.
4. With effect from Jan 2006, ITEAA will provide a fixed quantum of SSG fund, say $3,000 per College (ie 30 grants of $100) to the respective Colleges.
Who can apply
5. The SSG scheme is open to all full-time ITE students who faced with sudden financial hardship.
6. Examples of sudden financial hardship include sudden death of a family member and accident leading to loss of work, permanent disability, serious illness or job retrenchment faced by a major breadwinner of the student's family. The hardship must result in the student not being given pocket money by those who support him.
How to apply
7. The ITE Alumni SSG is now being integrated into the ITE’s Special Student Assistance Scheme (SSAS) and administered by the respective Colleges to achieve a more efficient operation. Generally, the Colleges will have a better feel of the extent of the financial hardships faced by the needy students and the urgency of assistance needed to be rendered to them. Hence, the Principal at his own discretion will decide and award to the deserving students in his College.
8. Application must be made using the prescribed SSAS Application Form. For ITE staff, they can access the application form via the SA Division Bulletin Board (Graduate Affairs Department) mounted on Lotus Notes.
Administration
9. A student who is awarded the ITE Alumni SSG in addition to ITE’s SSAS would be presented with a letter signed by the President of ITEAA. The letter serves to inform the student that he/she was also awarded the ITE Alumni SSG as there was no application done upfront.
Re-application
10. Each SSG award is for 1 semester only. Recipient of the SSG will be required to re-apply for the grant for each sequent semester if they need continued financial assistance from the ITE Alumni Association.
